Dear families

As we come to the end of another week of our visitor restrictions, I would like to again express our heartfelt thanks to you all so much for your co-operation, kind words and generosity towards staff. We do appreciate how challenging this time is for you all and we also recognize the worry you all are likely to have regarding your loved ones’ health and perhaps even your own.

We continue to maintain very strict vigilance of residents in all the nursing homes and react very quickly to any suspicion that a resident is displaying symptoms of COVID 19. In these suspected cases, we introduce PPE for staff as a precaution, to protect other residents and the staff themselves and as a measure to reduce potential spread, before tests are done and results are confirmed. We have good access to testing when we need it, we have staff available onsite to take swabs ourselves and results are coming back more quickly this week.

We do have a number of residents and staff who have tested positive in some of our nursing homes and the families of those resident affected have been informed directly. Please be assured that you will be kept informed if your loved one is impacted in any way.

We are conscious of the significant media coverage of nursing homes over the last week. TLC nursing homes are fortunately well supported by the HSE, Department of Public Health, our GPs and Consultant Geriatricians from our acute hospitals. That support has been evident during this crisis, although as a large nursing home group, with a wonderful staff group, so far we have been in a position to maintain our staffing levels in each home, without the need to access external staff. We will obviously keep this under review and will access all support as appropriate to ensure safe care.

We have received very positive feedback from many of you regarding the video calls and Facebook photos that staff have been facilitating. We intend to increase the capacity for this next week as we have received a very generous donation of 15 tablets from the #comfort4COVID go fund me page. I hope that these will help improve your connections with your family.

As always, please keep in contact with the staff if you have any specific questions or concerns. Please stay safe and be assured that we are fully committed to maintaining our high standards of care to all residents at all times, most particularly now when they are so vulnerable.
